Important Update for Travelers Heading to Kenya: Mandatory Local Health Insurance & eTA System
Planning travel to Kenya for upcoming events, conferences, or missions? Please be aware of important updates to the entry requirements!
Kenya’s entry process operates entirely through the Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system at etakenya.go.ke. Most international visitors, including those from previously visa-exempt countries, must secure an approved eTA before departure.
What You Need to Know:
-
Mandatory Local Health Insurance: As part of the official eTA application process, all international travelers are required to purchase a mandatory local travel health insurance policy (approx. $50 USD).
- Official website of the Kenyan Governement to request your Visa and Insurance: https://etakenya.go.ke/
-
Accessing & Downloading Your Documents: Once your eTA and insurance purchase are complete, you will receive your policy confirmation and emergency contact guide via email. You can also view, manage, and download your policy document at any time via the official portal at
.insurance.ecitizen.go.ke/dashboard -
Provisional Flight Itineraries: An eTA application requires confirmed flight details. To ensure a smooth entry process, we strongly recommend obtaining an approved eTA before finalizing non-refundable flight tickets.
Important Note: Existing private or corporate international travel insurance policies do not replace or exempt travelers from this government-mandated local coverage. The policy is processed directly through the official eTA application portal.
How We Can Help
At SIAMA, we support individual travelers and delegation groups with official provisional flight itineraries to submit with eTA applications, ensuring complete compliance before ticketing.
